Our privacy policy — in plain English
The short version
We collect as little information as we can get away with. We never sell it, we don't trade it, and we don't chase you around the internet with advertising. If you ask us to delete your data, we delete it. That's the policy. The rest is detail — and we've written it the way we'd want to read it.
What we collect, and why
- When you contact us (form, email or booking): your name, email, phone number and business name. Why: to answer you, and to keep a record of our conversation if you become a client.
- When you're a client: the records needed to do our work and meet our own legal obligations (like tax records).
- This website: [confirm what analytics are used, if any; for example, “no third-party advertising cookies; no analytics”].
We don't build marketing lists. If we ever send a newsletter (we might, occasionally, and only useful things), you choose to receive it and can stop any time with one click.
What we never do
We never sell or rent your personal information. We don't share it with data brokers. We don't run third-party advertising trackers on this website. Our whole business is built on handling people's data carefully — doing otherwise would be a strange way to make a living.
Who else sees your information
A short, deliberate list of service providers we need to operate: [email provider], [booking tool], [accounting software]. The website contact form uses Formspree. Each provider holds as little as possible, and we keep the list short on purpose. We will tell you who we use if you ask.
Where it lives
In Australia, as a rule. Where a tool stores data overseas, we choose ones with solid privacy commitments, and we tell you which ones we use.
How long we keep it
Client records: while you're a client, plus [7 years] for tax and legal record-keeping. Enquiries that don't go anywhere: [12 months], then gone. Backups containing your data are deleted on the same schedule.
Your rights (all of them, no arguing)
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Email help@computermechanic.com.au and we'll action it within [14 days]. You don't need a reason, a lawyer, or a form.
If something goes wrong
Mistakes happen even to careful people. If they do: we'll tell you quickly and honestly, we'll fix the cause, and we'll tell you what it means for you. Quietly sweeping it under the carpet isn't a plan — it's a scandal waiting to happen.
Changes to this policy
If we change it, we'll say so clearly — no sneaking new terms in and hoping you won't notice.
